Boil Advisory Issued for Indiana American Water Customers in Lowell, Ind.
LOWELL, IND. (December 28, 2022) – Indiana American Water Company has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for all customers served by the company in its Lowell, Ind. service area in Lake County after chlorine residuals dropped below the required two-tenths milligrams per liter for more than four hours on December 26 & 27, 2022.
Out of an abundance of caution, Indiana American Water issued the Boil Water Advisory late Tuesday evening, December 27, 2022, advising customers to drink and cook with tap water only after boiling it for three minutes. Tap water can be used for bathing, washing and other common uses.
Customers have been notified of the boil advisory by phone, e-mail, and text through the company’s Alerts1View emergency notification tool. Customers will be notified in the same manner when the advisory has been lifted.
Customers do not need to use an alternative (e.g., bottled) water supply. However, if you have specific health concerns, please consult your doctor.
The non-compliance issue was caused by several large service line breaks in the distribution system that resulted in an upset at the treatment plant. Drinking water for the community was brought back into compliance with drinking water regulations on December 27, 2022. The company is asking customers to share this information with all other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received notice of the advisory directly, including those in apartments, nursing homes, schools and businesses.
During the precautionary boil water advisory, the water company performs a series of tests to determine the water meets regulatory drinking water standards. Samples are taken from several sites within the affected area. Precautionary Boil orders usually last from 18 to 24 hours and customers will be notified in the same manner when the advisory has been lifted.
